0.5 Micron Filter Bags
Every Micron Filter Bag is custom-made from thick 3.4 mil polypropylene plastic and is designed to withstand the harsh conditions during the sterilization process. Our filter bags are heat resistant to 325° F or 160° C. The filter bags can endure high temperature and pressure for extended periods of time and will not melt or tear in a pressure cooker.
Airborne Particles
Our 0.5 Micron Filter Bags will capture the smallest airborne particles providing sterile air for your substrate and mycelium. Competing organisms will not be an issue when proper sterilization techniques are used. Properly sterilizing the bags of substrate, creating a sterile work environment, and properly sealing and storing the inoculated bags of substrate are important factors for a successful harvest.
Better Air/Gas Exchange
The 0.5 Micron Filter Bags allow sterile air to exchange with carbon dioxide. Mushrooms require oxygen to survive and release carbon dioxide which is both similar and at the same time very different to how humans consume oxygen. The increased sterile air circulation provided by the 0.5 Micron Filter Bags creates the ideal environment for the best results and highest yield of mushrooms.
6lbs 12ozs Fruiting Block Recipe
1lb 4ozs Soy Hulls
1750ml (3.5lbs) Water
8ozs Grain Spawn
Safety Tip
To sterilize four 6lb bags of substrate in a 23qt pressure cooker takes 2.5 hours at approximately 15psi. However, 2.5 hours is close to the maximum amount of time that you will want to use a pressure cooker. The risk of your pressure cooker running out of water increases the longer it is in use. Make sure to place extra spacers (old mason jar lids) on the bottom of the pressure cooker. This will allow you to add more water without submerging your bags of substrate. For safety, place a small ceramic plate on top of your bags so that no part of the plastic bag will come into contact with any vents within the pressure cooker.
Innoculating Substrate
Mix the Pure Maple Substrate and Soy Hulls before placing it into a 0.5 Micron Filter Bag. Add 1.6L of water direct into the bag and set aside to allow the substrate to absorb the water. Fold the bags and place the bags into a pressure cooker (four 6lbs bags will fit into a 23qt pressure cooker). Using sterile techniques, inoculated the sterilized substrate with approximately 0.5lbs of healthy grain spawn. Seal the bag and set on a shelf for a couple of weeks or until the mycelium has taken over 99% of the substrate. The substrate should be packed tight with white mycelium before the fruiting stage can begin.
Harvest Yield
One 7lb bag of healthy grain spawn can inoculate up to ten 6lb bags of sterilized substrate. Those ten inoculated bags of substrate will easily produce 30lbs+ of mushrooms or more. To get the best harvest you will need to provide proper conditions in order to help the mushrooms flourish. Ambient temperature, humidity, and light are large factors to achieve the mushrooms full growth potential. Your growing power increases exponentially when our 0.2 and 0.5 micron filter bags in tandem. That is, 0.2 microns used during grain spawn production and 0.5 microns used for the mushroom blocks.
