0.2 Micron Filter Bags
Every Micron Filter Bag is custom-made from thick 3.4 mil polypropylene plastic and is designed to withstand the harsh conditions during the sterilization process. Our filter bags are heat resistant to 325° F or 160° C. The filter bags can endure high temperature and pressure for extended periods of time and will not melt or tear in a pressure cooker.
The catch-all filter
The 0.2 Micron Filter captures airborne particles and microorganisms greater than and equal to 0.2 microns in size. Sterile air is exchanged with the carbon dioxide that is released during the mushrooms grow cycle. Our 0.2 Micron Filter Bag produces great results when used to create large batches of grain spawn. Stop wasting your time with small jars and start using 0.2 Micron Filter Bags to increase your production capacity. These bags are designed specifically for grain spawn and our smallest bags will hold over 7lbs of hydrated grain.
Preparation
First, choose the best grain spawn for your mycelium to grow, we like using rye berries. Second, soak the grain for at least 12 hours and no longer than 24 hours. Third, boil the grain for about 10 minutes. Fourth, drain and rinse the grain before weighing and placing it into the 0.2 Micron Filter Bags. Fifth, fold the bags so no excess moisture will enter bag when placed in the pressure cooker. Finally, stack the bags and fill with as much water as possible without submerging the bags. Proper sterilization for four 7lb bags of grain will take 2.5 hours in a pressure cooker at approximatley 15psi.
Safety Tip
2.5 hours is close to the maximum amount of time that you will want to use a pressure cooker. The risk of your pressure cooker running out of water increases the longer it is in use. Make sure to place extra spacers (like metal jar lids) on the bottom of the pressure cooker. This will allow you to add more water without submerging your bags of grain. For safety, place a small ceramic plate on top of your grain bags so that no part of the plastic bag will come into contact with any vents within the pressure cooker.
Innoculating Substrate
Once your grain has been sterilized, place the bags in a sterile area and wait 24 hours for the bags to cool down. Add active liquid culture to the room temperature grain and seal it with a heat sealer or plastic zip tie. Place your grain spawn in a dark area where it will not be disturbed. Healthy mycelium will begin to appear within days. After a couple of weeks, transfer the healthy grain spawn from 0.2 Micron Filter Bag to sterilized substrate in 0.5 Micron Filter bags.
Harvest Yield
One 7lb bag of healthy grain spawn can inoculate up to ten 6lb bags of sterilized substrate. Those ten inoculated bags of substrate will easily produce 30lbs+ of mushrooms or more. To get the best harvest you will need to provide proper conditions in order to help the mushrooms flourish. Ambient temperature, humidity, and light are large factors to achieve the mushrooms full growth potential. Your growing power increases exponentially when our 0.2 and 0.5 micron filter bags in tandem. That is, 0.2 microns used during grain spawn production and 0.5 microns used for the mushroom blocks.
