Maple trees are one of the most majestic trees in the forest and some species can live for hundreds of years and grow over one hundred feet tall. Maple trees are very noticeable and have strong features that take over the landscape with huge branches stemming from a gigantic and deep rooted trunk. Maple trees can be easily identified by its leaves that grow in pairs opposite one another at the stem nodes. The leafstalks are long and slender and the blades have several main veins all extending from the base of the leaf. Identifiying a maple tree by the bark can be tough as maples are diverse. The bark can be smooth when the tree is younger and can get rough and shaggy as it ages. There are several species of maple that thrive in the Great Lakes region of Ontario. Our maple is responsibly sourced through our forestry partners and is harvested from the vast forests within the province Ontario.
Some mushrooms seem to have particular preferences when it comes to the wood they choose to grow on. Most species of mushrooms (especially the mushroom species available on this website) flourish when maple substrate is used. Oak substrate will produce similar results with some mushroom strains.
