Wheat Bran

 What is Wheat Bran?

Wheat bran is the outer protective layer of the wheat kernel. When it comes to wheat not of the plant much goes to waste. Wheat fields are what feed the world as many of our daily food products are derived from wheat. Throughout the food chain every part of the wheat plant provides an excellent source of nutrition and dietary fiber. From humans to farm animals the benefits and utility provided by wheat is far reaching.

Our wheat bran is grown on local farms within the Southern Ontario region. We use the freshest wheat bran to provide the best source of nutrients to consistently grow massive clusters of mushrooms. When mix with our pure maple substrate the wheat bran creates a super charged substrate that will provide lasting nutrients to growing mushrooms.

Take your mushroom cultivation to the next level and supplement the substrate in your mushroom blocks with wheat bran. Grow like the pros and dial in the optimal wood substrate to wheat bran ratio to suit the variety of mushrooms. For a good starting point 50:50 wood substrate to wheat bran ratio would work best for faster growing mushroom species. And an 80:20 wood substrate to wheat bran ratio for slower growing mushroom species.

As always with mushroom cultivation, a large portion of success depends on the environment provided for the mushrooms especially during the fruiting stage. As it goes with mushroom cultivation a little experimentation will probably be required. Make sure to take good notes once all of the variables are dialed in such as substrate, temperature, humidity, lighting, and ventilation. After a couple of successful harvests scaling the production levels may become the next consideration. The possibilities are almost limitless and very delicious.

This formula for super powered substrate is similar to Master’s Mix which is made with maple substrate and soy hulls. Some mushroom cultivators may realize better results when supplementing maple substrate with wheat bran instead of soy hulls. Ultimately the decision should be based on the mushroom species to be grown and the environment in which it will grow.
