Pink Oyster
Organic Edible Art
The pink oyster mushroom is one of the most absolutely delightful gifts from nature that brings joy and wonder to all that see it. This vibrant mushroom produces bright pink pigments for the purpose of providing protection from the sun’s ultraviolet rays and predators. At least the mushrooms don’t have to worry about getting sun burnt. Pink oysters are native to Indonesia and flourish in tropical climates as in Brazil, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Japan. Pink oysters can be grown indoors without any compromise as long as the mushroom’s preferred environment is created. In fact, your chances of success are better when growing indoors as temperature and humidity adjustments can be made quickly and easily.
This mushroom is full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants within the cell walls of the glowing pink hue and top to bottom gills. Pink oysters retain most of the nutrients until the cell walls are broken down with heat. Most cell walls of mushrooms cannot broken down within our digestive system and heating or cooking the mushrooms breaks down the cell wall before ingestion. You will want to cook these mushrooms not only for the nutritional benefits but for the flavor enhancement. When pan fried on its own, pink oyster mushroom have a taste and texture slightly similar to lobster or crab. When added to a recipe, pink oysters will take on the flavors of the accompanying ingredients and dishes while adding a slight umami complexity.
Pink oyster mushrooms are made up of anticancer fighting compounds like selenium, choline, and folate. Chock full of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) and vitamin B3 (niacin) to help boost your immune system. Pink oysters also provide 8% of your recommended daily intake of amino acids, vitamin C, potassium, riboflavin, vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, folic acid, and magnesium. There are a lot more than just looks when it comes to the pink oyster mushroom. Aside from turning pink to provide protection from predators, there is no doubt this mushroom belongs in the superfood category.
