Micron Filter Bag – Mutli Pack
Every Micron Filter Bag is custom-made from thick 3.4 mil polypropylene plastic and is designed to withstand the harsh conditions during the sterilization process. Our filter bags are heat resistant to 325° F or 160° C. The filter bags can endure high temperature and pressure for extended periods of time and will not melt or tear in a pressure cooker.
From Start to Finish
Mushroom cultivators know the heartache of not having the enough inventory on-hand and the headache of trying to reorder. That’s why we offer both the 0.02 Micron Filter Bag and the 0.05 Micron Filter Bag in one convenient package. Micron Filter Multi Pack provides bags for grain spawn stage and mycelium to fruiting stage. The 0.02 & 0.05 Micron Filter Bags are all that you will need from start to finish.
0.02 Micron Filter Bag
First, choose the best grain spawn for your mycelium to grow, we like using rye berries. Second, soak the grain for at least 12 hours and no longer than 24 hours. Third, boil the grain for about 10 minutes. Fourth, drain and rinse the grain before weighing and placing it into the 0.02 Micron Filter Bags. Fifth, fold the bags in the appropriate manner and place them into a pressure cooker for 2.5 hours to ensure proper sterilization.
0.05 Micron Filter Bag
Mix the Pure Maple Substrate and Soy Hulls before placing it into a 0.05 Micron Filter Bag. Add 1.4L of water direct into the bag and set aside to allow the substrate to absorb the water. Fold the bags and place the bags into a pressure cooker (four 5lbs bags will fit into a 23qt pressure cooker). Using sterile techniques, inoculated the sterilized substrate with approximately 0.5lbs of healthy grain spawn. Seal the bag and set on a shelf for a couple of weeks or until the mycelium has taken over 99% of the substrate. The substrate should be packed tight with white mycelium before the Fruiting Stage can begin.
5lb Fruiting Block Recipe
1lb Pure Maple Substrate
1lb Soy Hulls
1.4L (3lbs) Water
Safety Tip
To sterilize four 5lb bags of substrate in a 23qt pressure cooker takes 2.5 hours at approximately 15psi. However, 2.5 hours is close to the maximum amount of time that you will want to use a pressure cooker. The risk of your pressure cooker running out of water increases the longer it is in use. Make sure to place extra spacers (like metal jar lids) on the bottom of the pressure cooker. This will allow you to add more water without submerging your bags of substrate. For safety, place a small ceramic plate on top of your bags so that no part of the plastic bag will come into contact with any vents within the pressure cooker.
Harvest Yield
One 5lb bag of healthy grain spawn can be used to inoculate up to ten 5lb bags of sterilized substrate. Ten bags of inoculated substrate can easily produce 20lbs of mushrooms or more. Your growing power increases exponentially when the two filter bags are used together.
