What are Micron Filter Bags?

Creating The Environment

First, let’s explain why you should use Micron Filter Bags. Filter bags provide a convenient and sterile environment for your mushrooms. Using filter bags with proper sterilization techniques will help to stop competing spores, dust, or mites from contaminating your mushrooms. Controlling the environment will significantly increase your success rate compared to mushrooms grown using containers.

In The Wild

Wild mushrooms must drop millions of spores in order to have only a few flourish to repeat the life cycle for the next generation. When cultivating mushrooms available space, time, and resources must not be wasted. The need for a consistently successful process is a necessity. The main purpose of using Micron Filter Bags is to create and control the environment for your mushrooms. This will eliminate any issues the mushrooms would otherwise experience while growing outdoors.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene is considered a thermoplastic since its heat resistant with a melting point of 160° C. Created by scientists in the early 1950’s, polypropylene is used in a variety of applications including automotive parts, toys, reusable water bottles, medical components, and more. Polypropylene bags are widely used in commercial mushroom production because the bags offer enhanced convenience and consistency at a low cost.

Since polypropylene is heat resistant the filter bags are safe to use in a pressure cooker to sterile substrate. The bags provide protection for the mycelium as well as providing the environment for your mushrooms. The most convenient feature of polypropylene bags is the clear plastic. The clear plastic will allow you to quickly identify any issues during cultivation. Gussets provide the structure and balance needed to maintain proper organization. The flat bottom provides convenient storage for your portable mushroom environment.

Micron Filters

Micron Filters allow for proper air and gas exchange without exposing your mushrooms to ambient air. As air is exchanged from within the bag the filter captures any particles and microorganism that try to enter. The Micron Filters are built directly into the bags and are rated from 0.2 microns to 5 microns. The 0.2 Micron Filter will capture particles as small as 0.2 microns creating very sterile air. Some mushroom species require more air exchange where the 0.5 Micron Filter would be the best option.

Autoclavable

Micron Filter Bags have to withstand harsh conditions during the sterilization process such as high temperature and pressure. Thick and heat resistant polypropylene plastic is used to make the filter bags which prevents any melting or tearing.

Gussets

The sides of filter bags are gusseted (triangular fold) to add strength and to reduce stress. Gussets provide the structure and balance needed to maintain the proper organization of your portable mushroom environment.

Increased Yields

Micron Filter Bags offer many benefits for Urban Farmers looking to take their cultivation skills to the next level. Decrease your effort while increasing your overall yield and sustainability. Increase your rate of production by adding our Micron Filter Bags to your cultivation routine.
